The Santora Arts Building is a very old and special building in Santa Ana, California. It is in the city's historic downtown area. Today, it is a lively place filled with art galleries, shops, and restaurants. It's a great spot to see art and enjoy the city!

Building Design and Style

The Santora building was designed by a famous architect named Frank Lansdowne. He was one of the best architects in the area. Construction on the building started on July 7, 1928.

The building's style is called California Churrigueresque. This is a special type of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. It often includes fancy decorations and detailed designs, like those found in old Spanish buildings.

The Santora is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is an important historical building in the United States. Its official record number is 386426.

A Look Back in Time

From 1934 to 1944, a popular restaurant called Daninger's Tea Room was on the second floor of the Santora building. It was known for its delicious homemade meals and friendly atmosphere.

Many famous people from Hollywood visited Daninger's Tea Room. Some of the celebrities who signed the guest book included Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, George Burns, and Joan Davis.

After some time, the downtown area of Santa Ana became less busy. But the Santora building found a new life as an arts center! Many different artists moved in. One of them was Joseph Musil, who created the "Salon of the Art Deco Theaters" there. Musil was a set designer for the Walt Disney company. He even worked on the famous El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.
