Early Life and Music Journey
Santos Jorge was born in November 1870 in a town called Peralta, located in Navarre, Spain. From a young age, he showed a great talent for music. He studied at the famous Conservatorio de Madrid, which is a top music school in Spain.
After finishing his studies, Santos Jorge moved to the Isthmus of Panama in 1889. At that time, Panama was part of Colombia. He quickly became a respected music teacher. His skills were recognized, and in 1892, he was chosen to be the director of the military band for the Colombia Battalion. This was an important role that showed his leadership and musical abilities.
Composing the National Anthem
Santos Jorge's most famous work is the music for the "Isthmian Hymn," which later became Panama's national anthem. The words for this important song were written by Jeronimo de la Ossa. The anthem celebrates the history and spirit of Panama. It is a very important symbol for the country, and Santos Jorge's music helps to make it powerful and memorable.
