She is known for her work on complex math problems. She often uses computers to help her check her math proofs. Currently, she is a professor of mathematics at the University of Washington.
Becoming a Mathematician
Sara Billey started her college studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She finished her first degree there in 1990.
Advanced Studies
She then went on to earn her Ph.D. in mathematics. This was in 1994, from the University of California, San Diego. Her teachers, Adriano Garsia and Mark Haiman, guided her research.
Teaching and Research
After getting her Ph.D., Sara Billey returned to MIT. She worked there as a researcher and later became a professor. In 2003, she moved to the University of Washington. She has been a math professor there ever since.
