Teaching Medicine
We know about Sara's work and medical knowledge because of a special document. This document is a contract she made with one of her students, Salvetus de Burgonoro. He was from a place called Salon de Provence.
The Contract Details
The contract was signed on August 28, 1326. It explained that Sara de Sancto Aegidio would teach Salvetus about medicine for seven months. She also agreed to give him a place to live and clothes. In return, Salvetus had to give Sara any money he earned while he was learning from her. This kind of agreement, where a teacher and student make a formal contract, is very old. Sara's contract is one of the earliest and best-known examples of this type of teacher-student agreement from that time. It shows how dedicated she was to passing on her medical skills.
