Sarah Grueneberg is a famous American chef. She owns and is the head chef at Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio in Chicago. When she was the main chef at Spiaggia, her restaurant earned a special award called a Michelin star for three years. In 2017, she won a big award, the James Beard Foundation Award, for being the Best Chef in the Great Lakes area. Sarah also came in second place on the TV show Top Chef and appeared on Iron Chef Gauntlet.

Becoming a Chef
Sarah Grueneberg grew up in Houston, Texas. She became interested in cooking by helping her German grandparents. She went to The Art Institute of Houston and finished her studies in 2001. She earned a special degree in applied science.
Early Cooking Jobs
After finishing school, Sarah worked at Brennan's of Houston. By 2003, she became a sous chef, which is like a second-in-command chef. In 2005, she moved to work at Spiaggia, a well-known restaurant. She kept getting promoted there.
In 2010, Sarah became the main chef, also known as the executive chef, at Spiaggia. While she was in charge, Spiaggia received a Michelin star for three years in a row. This is a very high honor for a restaurant!
TV Appearances
Sarah Grueneberg also became famous on television. She competed on the ninth season of Bravo TV's Top Chef. She did very well and finished in second place. She also appeared on the TV show Iron Chef Gauntlet as a contestant. In 2013, she won the first episode of another TV show called Beat Bobby Flay.
Opening Her Own Restaurant
Sarah Grueneberg had a dream of opening her own restaurant. She started planning it in 2013 with her friend Meg Sahs. In 2016, her dream came true when she opened Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio. This restaurant serves delicious Italian cuisine.
