Sarah Jane Smith is a very popular character from the British TV show Doctor Who. She was played by the actress Elisabeth Sladen. Sarah Jane was a special friend, known as a "companion," who traveled through time and space with the Third Doctor and the Fourth Doctor.
She works as an investigative journalist. This means she looks into important stories and tries to find out the truth. Sarah Jane's First Adventures
Sarah Jane first appeared in Doctor Who in 1973. Her very first story was called The Time Warrior. In this adventure, she met and began traveling with the Third Doctor. They had many exciting journeys together across different planets and times.
After the Third Doctor changed into the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane continued to travel with him. They explored even more of the universe. Their adventures were full of danger, mystery, and fun.
Saying Goodbye to the TARDIS
Sarah Jane's time traveling with the Fourth Doctor eventually came to an end. In a story called The Hand of Fear, the Doctor had to go back to his home planet, Gallifrey. Sarah Jane was not allowed to go there with him. So, she had to leave the TARDIS, the Doctor's time machine, and return to Earth.
She was a regular companion on the show from 1973 to 1976. This covered seasons 11 through 14 of Doctor Who.
Her Return to Doctor Who
Even after leaving the TARDIS, Sarah Jane Smith made special appearances in Doctor Who again. She returned in 1983 for the Fifth Doctor story "The Five Doctors." This was a big episode celebrating the show's 20th anniversary.
She also appeared in the 30th anniversary story, Dimensions In Time, in 1993. Most recently, she came back to the new Doctor Who series. She reunited with the Tenth Doctor in the episode "School Reunion" in 2006. She then helped him again in "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End" in 2008.
Her Own Spin-Off Shows
Sarah Jane Smith was so popular that she got her own TV shows. The first was K-9 and Company, which also featured the Doctor's robot dog, K-9. Later, she starred in The Sarah Jane Adventures. This series followed her new adventures on Earth, protecting it from alien threats.
