Early Life and Family
Sarah Lincoln was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, on February 10, 1807. Two years later, on February 12, 1809, her younger brother Abraham Lincoln was born. They also had another brother named Thomas, but he sadly died just three days after he was born in 1812.
When Sarah was 11 years old, her mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, passed away. This happened on October 5, 1818, due to a serious illness. For about six months, Sarah and Abraham lived alone with their father, Thomas Lincoln. Then, their father remarried. He married a kind woman named Sarah Bush Johnson, who became their stepmother. She took good care of Sarah and Abraham.
Marriage and Passing
In August 1826, Sarah Lincoln married Aaron Grigsby. He was born in 1801. Sarah became pregnant in 1827. Sadly, on January 20, 1828, she died while giving birth to her first child. Her baby boy did not survive either.
When her brother Abraham Lincoln heard the sad news of Sarah's death, he was very upset. He shook with sadness and cried. Sarah's passing was a very difficult time for him and their family.
