Sarah Ann Watt (born August 30, 1958 – died November 4, 2011) was a talented Australian film director, writer, and animator. She was known for her unique storytelling and creative animated films. Sarah's work often explored everyday life and feelings in a special way.

Sarah Watt's Early Life and Career

Sarah Watt was born in Sydney, Australia. She loved art and storytelling from a young age. She went on to study film and animation at the Swinburne Film and Television School in Melbourne. This school is now part of the Victorian College of the Arts.

Becoming a Film Director and Animator

In 1990, Sarah finished her studies with a special diploma in film and television animation. Her student film, Catch of the Day, showed the kind of creative style she would use in her future movies. She started her career making short films.

Award-Winning Short Films

In 1995, Sarah directed a short film called Small Treasures. This film was very successful and won the Best Short Film award at the famous Venice Film Festival. Later, in 2001, her short animated film Living with Happiness also won an award for Best Short Animation at the Australian Film Institute Awards.

Creating TV Programs

Sarah also made programs for television. In 2000, she created a show called Local Dive for the SBS series Swim Between the Flags. At the same time, she worked on another project called The Way of the Birds. This film was based on a book by author Meme McDonald.

Directing a Major Film: Look Both Ways

Sarah Watt became widely known for her 2005 film, Look Both Ways. This movie was a big success and earned her the Australian Film Institute's award for Best Director. The film was praised for its original story and how it blended animation with live-action scenes.
