The Sargent County Courthouse is an important building in Forman, North Dakota. It was built a long time ago, in 1910. This building serves as the main courthouse for Sargent County.

It was designed by famous architects named Buechner & Orth. They used a special building style called Beaux Arts. This style often looks grand and fancy. The courthouse was recognized as a special historic place in 1980. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

What Makes This Courthouse Special?

The Sargent County Courthouse is a good example of the work done by Buechner & Orth. They designed many courthouses in North Dakota. This one is sometimes called a "simpler" version of their other buildings. Two examples are the Foster County Courthouse and the Pierce County Courthouse.

How Does It Look from the Outside?

The front of the Sargent County Courthouse has a central part that looks very similar to the Foster County Courthouse. It has almost the same design, with only small differences. This shows how the architects used similar ideas for their different projects.

What's Inside the Building?

Inside the courthouse, you can find some cool features. There is a beautiful skylight made of colorful stained glass. It has geometric shapes, which means it uses lines and patterns. The first floor has special floors made of pink terrazzo and pink marble. Terrazzo is a type of floor made from chips of marble or other stones.

Some people think there might have been paintings on the walls, called murals, but they are not there anymore. The main spaces inside the building have not changed much over the years. The only big change is a new ceiling in the courtroom. It is a dropped ceiling made of acoustical tiles, which help to make the room quieter. The main hall, called the rotunda, is also simpler than in some of the other courthouses designed by Buechner & Orth.
