Satoru Mochizuki (望月 聡, Mochizuki Satoru, born 18 May 1964) is a famous Japanese football player and coach. He played as a Midfielder or forward for several clubs in Japan. He also represented the Japanese national team. Today, he is known for coaching women's football teams.

Playing Career: A Football Journey

Satoru Mochizuki was born in Otsu, Japan, on May 18, 1964. After finishing his studies at Osaka University of Commerce, he started his professional football career in 1987.

Playing for NKK SC

Mochizuki joined a team called Nippon Kokan, which later became NKK SC. This team was very successful during his time there. In the 1987–88 season, they finished second in the Japan Soccer League. They also won the JSL Cup in 1987, which was a big achievement.

Moving to J1 League Teams

In 1992, Mochizuki moved to Urawa Reds, a team in the top Japanese league, the J1 League. He played there for a few years. Later, in 1995, he joined Kyoto Purple Sanga. This team was in the Japan Football League at the time. In 1995, Kyoto Purple Sanga finished second and earned promotion to the J1 League. Mochizuki retired from playing football in 1996.

Representing Japan: International Matches

Satoru Mochizuki also played for his country, the Japan national team. He made his first appearance for Japan on January 27, 1988, in a game against the United Arab Emirates. He also played in the qualifying matches for the 1990 FIFA World Cup in 1989. In total, he played 7 games for Japan between 1988 and 1989.

Coaching Career: Leading Teams to Success

After his playing career, Mochizuki became a football coach. He has coached many teams, including youth teams and women's national teams.

Coaching the Japan Women's Team

From 2008 to 2012, Mochizuki worked as an assistant coach for the Japan women's national football team. During this time, he helped the team achieve a huge victory: they won the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. This was a historic moment for Japanese football.

Leading the Indonesia Women's Team

In 2024, Satoru Mochizuki took on a new challenge. On February 20, 2024, he was appointed as the head coach for the Indonesia women's national football team. He also coached the Indonesian women's U17 team in the 2024 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup tournament held in Bali.

Under his guidance, the Indonesian women's senior team had a great start. On May 28, 2024, they played a friendly match against the Singapore women's team and won with a score of 5–1. This was a big victory for the team.

Later in 2024, Mochizuki led the Indonesia women's team in the annual 2024 AFF Women's Cup. This tournament also served as a qualifier for the upcoming ASEAN Women's Championship. Indonesia made history by winning their first-ever trophy in this competition. They defeated Cambodia 3–1 in the final match.
