Satoru Suzuki (鈴木 悟, Suzuki Satoru, born July 19, 1975) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender, which means his main job was to stop the other team from scoring goals. Suzuki spent most of his career playing for two main clubs in Japan: Cerezo Osaka and Kyoto Sanga FC. He was known for his strong defense and helped his teams achieve important results, including reaching the finals of the Emperor's Cup.

Playing Career Highlights

Satoru Suzuki was born in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, on July 19, 1975. After finishing his studies at Juntendo University, he began his professional football journey in 1998. He joined Cerezo Osaka, a team in Japan's top football league, the J1 League.

Time at Cerezo Osaka

From his very first season, Suzuki played in many games as a left-side defender. This position involves defending the left side of the field. As the years went on, especially in the early 2000s, he often played as a center-back. A center-back is a defender who plays in the middle of the field, usually in front of the goalkeeper.

In 2001, his team, Cerezo Osaka, had a great run in the Emperor's Cup, a major football tournament in Japan. They made it all the way to the final match, finishing in second place. However, their league performance was not as strong that year, and the team was moved down to the J2 League for the 2002 season.

But Cerezo Osaka quickly bounced back! They returned to the J1 League after just one year. In 2003, they once again reached the final of the Emperor's Cup, showing their strength in cup competitions.

Moving to Kyoto Sanga FC

In 2004, Suzuki decided to move to another team, Kyoto Sanga FC (then known as Kyoto Purple Sanga), which was in the J2 League at the time. He continued to play many games as a center-back for them.

In 2005, he played fewer matches, but his team had a very successful year. Kyoto Sanga FC won the J2 League championship! This win meant they were promoted to the J1 League for the 2006 season.

Final Season and Retirement

In 2006, Suzuki started the season strong, playing as a center-back in the first five games. However, he unfortunately got an injury after the sixth match, which kept him from playing for a while. He did return as a substitute in October, but he wasn't able to play much more. At the end of the 2006 season, Satoru Suzuki decided to retire from professional football.

Throughout his career, Satoru Suzuki played in 225 league games and scored 9 goals. He was a dedicated defender who helped his teams achieve important victories and promotions.
