Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Saturday Nick TV (often called sn:tv) was a super fun weekend morning show on Nickelodeon Australia. It aired on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. The show was made by Burberry Productions and filmed in Melbourne. It even got a helping hand from pop star Britney Spears when it first started!

Meet the Hosts of sn:tv

sn:tv had different hosts during its two seasons. These hosts helped make the show exciting and full of games.

Season One Hosts

  • Natalie Garonzi
  • Dave Lawson
  • David "Kambo" Kambouris

Season Two Hosts

  • Dave Lawson
  • Jesse Tobin
  • Emily Perry

Dave Lawson's Journey

Dave Lawson was a very popular face on Nickelodeon. He joined sn:tv in its first season, which started in 2002. Dave was a host for both seasons of sn:tv.

After sn:tv ended, Dave continued to work on Nickelodeon shows. He hosted 'Sarvo' for a while with other sn:tv hosts, "Kambo" and "Nat." Then, he became a host for 'Camp Orange', which was a reality TV show for kids on Nickelodeon. Later, he returned to 'Sarvo' with James Kerley.

Dave also hosted the Nickelodeon Australian Kids' Choice Awards in 2006. He hosted it alongside James Kerley and Sophie Monk. Dave left Nickelodeon on February 23, 2007.

What Was sn:tv Like?

sn:tv was the Australian version of a very popular UK show called SMTV Live. Both seasons of sn:tv started at 10 AM, right after a block of back-to-back Nicktoons.

The show would begin with a quick intro. Then, they would show a brand new episode of a popular Nickelodeon cartoon. Shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly OddParents, and Saved by the Bell were often featured. In the first season, they also showed CatDog. After the cartoon, the hosts would perform different segments and funny skits.

A sketch called "Mates" was always the last part of the show. It played as the credits rolled.

Fun Segments in Series One

The first season of sn:tv was a big hit! It was the first show on Foxtel to beat The Simpsons in ratings in over seven years. Segments like "Wonkey Donkey" and "Mates" (which was a funny take on the TV show Friends) were very popular with viewers of all ages.

The show had a live audience at ABC Studios in Melbourne. They played various game shows.

  • "Strip Search": Host Natalie Garonzi would ask Australian celebrities (like Britney Spears) as many questions as she could in one minute. Questions were quick choices, like "Cats Or Dogs?" or "Peanut Butter or Vegemite?"
  • "Challenge Dave": Natalie Garonzi would lead a fun competition between Dave Lawson and an audience member. The winner would get a Nickelodeon prize pack, and the loser would get a "Snot Pot" (another Nickelodeon item).

Famous guests from the US, like Destiny's Child, Justin Timberlake, and Jennifer Love Hewitt, also appeared on the show.

Changes in Series Two

After the first season's success, sn:tv got a new look and new segments. Even though two hosts (Kambo and Nat) left, the show was still filmed in Melbourne with the same logo. The only segment they kept was "Mates" because everyone loved it so much.

In the second season, the audience members were split into two teams at the start of the show. The teams would pick names based on Nickelodeon shows, like "The Catdogs" or "The Angry Beavers". They would then play different games. Often, one kid from each team would compete against each other, or sometimes even against the hosts! For example, Jesse Tobin might compete against a kid to see who could balance a rotten egg on their head the longest.

Many games involved some kind of mess, which was super fun for kids to watch! For example, in a game called 'Vomit Comet,' Dave and Emily would ask kids questions. If a kid hesitated or said "yes" or "no" when they shouldn't, the other team would get points. The losing team member would then go into an elevator and get a bucket of fake slime poured on their head!

By the end of the show, the team with the most points would each get a piece of Nickelodeon merchandise. The second season focused more on kids playing games and less on celebrity guests.

Why sn:tv Ended

Nickelodeon decided to stop making sn:tv in 2005 after two seasons. This was because not enough people were watching the show anymore. It's not likely that sn:tv will ever come back.

To fill the Saturday morning and afternoon time slots, Nickelodeon introduced two new shows. 'Slam' became a two-hour block of action cartoons. 'Sarvo Rewind' was a 30-minute summary of the weekday afternoon show 'Sarvo'. 'Sarvo Rewind' was canceled in late 2006.

Emily Perry and Jesse Tobin haven't been seen on Nickelodeon since 2005. However, Dave Lawson continued to work with the network until he left in February 2007, as mentioned above.
