What Was Sauber Petronas Engineering?
This company was created for one main reason: to make powerful engines for the Sauber Formula One team. Formula One is a very fast and exciting type of car racing. Having a good engine is super important for a racing car to win!
Building F1 Engines
For many years, the engines built by Sauber Petronas Engineering were very similar to those used by another famous racing team, Ferrari. Even though they were almost the same, these engines were given the name Petronas. This helped Petronas get their name known in the world of racing.
Working with Ferrari
Sauber Petronas Engineering didn't just copy Ferrari's engines. They actually had a special agreement. They licensed (which means they got permission to use) almost every part from Ferrari. They even had several engineers from Ferrari working with them. This close teamwork helped them build strong and reliable engines for the Sauber team.
Other Projects
Besides making engines for Formula One cars, Sauber Petronas Engineering also helped develop other cool machines. For example, they worked on motorcycles, like the Petronas FP1. This shows they had skills beyond just car engines.
