Savage Sam is an exciting American Western film from 1963. It's a follow-up movie to the famous film Old Yeller. This movie is based on a book called Savage Sam by Fred Gipson, published in 1962. Norman Tokar directed this live-action film. Walt Disney Productions released it on June 1, 1963.
The Story of Savage Sam
The movie takes place in Southwest Texas in 1870. Travis Coates, who is 18 years old, is in charge of his younger brother, Arliss. Arliss is 12 and has a brave dog named Savage Sam. Their parents are away visiting their sick grandmother.
One day, Arliss and Savage Sam are tracking a wildcat. Meanwhile, Bud Searcy warns Travis that a group of Native Americans is in the area. Travis and Bud's 17-year-old granddaughter, Lisbeth, go to find Arliss. But all three are captured by a group of Native Americans.
The boys' Uncle Beck Coates sees what happens. He manages to hurt the leader of the group. However, Uncle Beck's horse is shot, and the group escapes with the captives. Uncle Beck quickly tells the U.S. Cavalry what happened.
The Native Americans split into three groups and ride into the hills. In the confusion, Travis escapes but is knocked out. He is left behind. Uncle Beck and his group of five friends find Travis and Savage Sam. They set off to rescue the others.
They eventually find the Native Americans in a valley. The group is arguing over Lisbeth. One of Uncle Beck's friends, Pack Underwood, fires a shot. This warns the Native Americans about their plan. But the young people are saved, and the group of Native Americans is captured.
