Sawyer, Nebraska facts for kids
Sawyer is what we call a ghost town in Fillmore County, Nebraska. A ghost town is a place where people used to live and work, but now almost no one does. It's like a town that has been left behind.
The Story of Sawyer
Sawyer was first planned out in the year 1887. This means people decided where the streets and buildings would go. A special building called a post office opened in Sawyer in 1888. This was where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office stayed open for many years, but it closed down in 1921. The town of Sawyer was named after a man named Simeon Sawyer. He was one of the very first people to settle and live in that area.
