Sawyer Point Park & Yeatman's Cove facts for kids
Sawyer Point Park & Yeatman's Cove are two amazing parks right next to each other in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. These parks stretch for one mile along the northern side of the Ohio River. They are called "linear parks" because they are long and narrow, following the river's edge. Since 2012, these parks have been home to the yearly Bunbury Music Festival, a popular event for music lovers.
Discover Yeatman's Cove
Yeatman's Cove park sits on the spot where Cincinnati's very first tavern was built. A tavern was like an old-fashioned restaurant and inn. Griffin Yeatman opened it in 1793. It was a popular place for people who worked on the river.
Today, the park has a huge bronze statue of Cincinnatus. He was a Roman citizen and soldier. The city of Cincinnati is named after him! Yeatman's Cove is also a great spot to watch the Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Riverfest. This big event happens every year on Labor Day weekend.
The Serpentine Wall
The Serpentine Wall is a special curved wall located at Yeatman's Cove. It is built along the banks of the Ohio River. This wall was finished in 1976. It helps protect the city from floods.
The wall has steps that go down towards the river. Visitors can sit on these steps. From there, they can enjoy views across the river to Northern Kentucky. The wall's wavy shape makes it unique and fun to explore.
