History of Sawyers Bar
Sawyers Bar started as a busy California Gold Rush mining camp. This was a time in the mid-1800s when many people rushed to California hoping to find gold.
Early Days and County Changes
When it first began, Sawyers Bar was part of Trinity County. This was one of California's very first counties, created in 1850 when California became a state.
Later, as more gold was discovered near the Klamath and Salmon Rivers, Sawyers Bar became part of a new area called Klamath County. This county existed from 1851 to 1874, but it doesn't exist anymore. After Klamath County was dissolved, Sawyers Bar became part of Siskiyou County, where it is today.
Gold Mining Success
Sawyers Bar was one of the most successful gold-producing areas in the region during the Gold Rush. Other important mining spots nearby included Negro Flat, Gullion's Bar, and Bestville.
