Scarborough State Beach is a fun public beach in Narragansett, Rhode Island. It's right on the Atlantic Ocean! This state park is about 60 acres big. It has two main parts located on Ocean Road. At the beach, you can swim in the ocean, have a picnic, climb an observation tower, and walk along a boardwalk.

History of Scarborough Beach

Scarborough Beach first opened with a special building called a pavilion in 1937. Over time, the beach grew bigger. In 1981, the state bought Lido's Beach, which was 7 acres. Then, in 1986, they bought Olivo's Beach, which was 9 acres. These new areas helped create the two-part beach complex we see today.

After these additions, the beach got a big makeover in 1987. Many improvements were made to make it even better for visitors. In the summer of 2020, all state beaches in Rhode Island, including Scarborough, were open from 9 AM to 6 PM.
