Scenery Hill is a small community in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. Before April 10, 1867, it was known as Hillsborough. It's an unincorporated community, which means it's a place with a shared identity but without its own local government. Most people living in North Bethlehem Township use Scenery Hill as their postal address. The main ZIP code for the area is 15360.

This village is located along U.S. Route 40. This historic road is also called the National Pike or National Road. It was the very first major highway built in the United States that went from east to west.

Each year in May, a big festival takes place along this road. It stretches through parts of Maryland and into Ohio. Scenery Hill often hosts fun events and exhibits during this festival. Many of the old houses and shops in the community are part of the Scenery Hill Historic District. This district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its historical importance.

A Look at Scenery Hill's Past

The community was first named after Robert Hill, one of the earliest settlers in the area. The Hill family is famous for building Hill's Tavern. This building is now known as the Century Inn. It was constructed between 1788 and 1794.

The Historic Century Inn

Hill's Tavern, built in the 1700s, is a very important part of the village's history. It has been a central landmark for centuries. Sadly, a fire on August 17, 2015, caused a lot of damage to this old building.

Many antique shops now fill the old homes along the main road. Several families in the region have lived there since the 1700s.

Scenery Hill is surrounded by farms where sheep and cattle are raised. The community is also home to small churches for Lutheran and Methodist groups. The village sits high up, at an elevation of about 1,388 feet (423 meters) above sea level.
