Schalkau is a town in the state of Thuringia, Germany. It is located in the Sonneberg district. The town is about 13 kilometers (8 miles) west of Sonneberg. It is also about 15 kilometers (9 miles) north of Coburg.
People and Government
About 3,500 people live in Schalkau. The leader of the town is called the mayor. The current mayor of Schalkau is Reinhard Zehner. He helps manage the town.
History Notes
A nearby area called Bachfeld used to be a separate municipality. On December 31, 2019, Bachfeld joined Schalkau. This means it became part of the town of Schalkau.
