A Sweet History
The Schimpff family has a long history of making delicious candy. They started making sweets way back in the 1850s, near Louisville, Kentucky.
The candy store you see today first opened its doors on April 11, 1891. It was started by Gustav Schimpff Sr. and his son, Gustav Jr. For many years, the family even lived right above the store!
In 1937, the store faced a big challenge when its first two floors were flooded. But they kept going!
Today, the business is run by Jill and Warren Schimpff. They are the fourth generation of the family to own the store. They took over in 1990.
Since the year 2000, the store has grown even bigger. They added a special candy museum. They also created a demonstration area. Here, visitors can watch how the candy is made right in front of their eyes!
