Schuman Cheese is a big company that brings lots of delicious Italian cheeses into the United States. It used to be called Arthur Schuman Inc.
How Schuman Cheese Started
Schuman Cheese began in 1945. Arthur Schuman started it as a family business. His sons, Jerome and Howard, helped him.
A year later, in 1946, the company became Arthur Schuman, Inc. They were based in New York and focused on importing cheese.
In 1948, they started bringing in cheeses from Argentina in South America. By 1956, they were the only company allowed to import Roquefort Cheese into the U.S.
Over the years, Schuman Cheese grew a lot. They bought other companies like Grater Inc. and Lake Country Dairy. They also became the main distributor for Dodoni Greek cheeses.
In 2016, the company changed its name to Schuman Cheese.
Later that year, they started something called the "True Cheese Mark." This was to make sure cheese was pure. It helped people know their cheese didn't have things like wood pulp or plastic in it.
