The Story of Schuman Cheese
How It All Started
Schuman Cheese began a long time ago, in 1945. A man named Arthur Schuman started it as a family business. His sons, Jerome and Howard, helped him. Just one year later, in 1946, their cheese importing company in New York became Arthur Schuman, Inc.
Growing the Business
The company quickly grew. In 1948, they started bringing in cheeses from Argentina in South America. By 1956, they became the only company allowed to import Roquefort Cheese into the U.S. That's a very special kind of blue cheese!
Over the years, Schuman Cheese bought other companies too. This helped them make and sell even more cheese. They even bought a factory in Montfort, Wisconsin, that makes blue cheese. In 2016, the company changed its name to just Schuman Cheese.
Ensuring Cheese Quality
Later in 2016, Schuman Cheese started something called the "True Cheese Mark." This mark helps people know that their cheese is pure. Sometimes, other things like wood pulp or plastic were found in cheese. The "True Cheese Mark" means the cheese has been tested. This testing makes sure the cheese is real and pure.

Over the years, Schuman Cheese has grown all around the world. Today, they have offices and factories in many places. You can find them in New York City, Montfort, Wisconsin, and even Hong Kong. - 1987: Neal Schuman, who is the CEO and President, received a special award from France. It's called the Ordre Du Mérite Agricole.
- 2009: Jerome Schuman was honored for his many years of work in the cheese industry. He received the Laureate Award.
- 2010: The company was named one of the Top 20 Private Companies in New Jersey.
- 2011: The U.S. government asked Neal Schuman to serve on an important committee. This committee helps make decisions about dairy and animal products.
- Leaders in the Industry: Four presidents of the Cheese Importers Association of America have come from Arthur Schuman Inc. This shows their leadership in the industry.
