The Scoparia sinuata is a special kind of moth that belongs to the family Crambidae. This moth is found only in New Zealand, which means it is endemic to that country.

Discovering the Sinuata Moth

This interesting moth was first described by a scientist named Alfred Philpott. He officially recorded it in the year 1930. Scientists are still studying exactly where this moth fits within the Scoparia group.

What Does It Look Like?

The Scoparia sinuata moth is quite small. Its wingspan (how wide it is when its wings are spread out) is about 18 to 19 millimeters. That's less than an inch!

Its front wings are a light brown color. They have some darker, almost black, spots along the front edge. You can see two white lines on these wings. The first white line has a black edge behind it. The second white line is also white, and there's a faint whitish area near the end of the wing.

The back wings of the moth are a very light, pale yellow color. They also have some brown cloud-like patterns on them.

When Can You See Them?

Adult Scoparia sinuata moths have been seen flying around in February. This is when they are active.
