The Commonwealth Games are a big sports event. Athletes from countries in the Commonwealth of Nations compete. In 2006, the Games were held in Melbourne, Australia.
Scotland sent a team of 166 athletes to the 2006 Commonwealth Games. There were 104 men and 62 women. They were supported by 70 officials. This team was a bit smaller than the one Scotland sent in 2002. In 2002, Scotland had 207 athletes and won 6 gold, 8 silver, and 16 bronze medals.

Scotland at the 2006 Commonwealth Games
The Scottish team left for Melbourne on February 28, 2006. They flew from Glasgow Airport. Emirates Airlines was one of their main sponsors. Other groups like the Clydesdale Bank and sportscotland also helped pay for the team.
Scotland had a very successful time at the Games. They won more medals than ever before! This was great news, especially since judo was not part of the 2006 Games. Scotland had won many medals in judo in past events.

- Cycling: Ross Edgar, Chris Hoy, and Craig MacLean won gold in the Men's Team Sprint.
