The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) is a cool museum in Scottsdale, Arizona. It's located in the Old Town area of downtown Scottsdale. This museum is all about modern art, design, and architecture.

SMoCA has five main rooms, called galleries. These galleries show different art exhibits. Some art is from the museum's own collection. Other art comes from special shows that change often. A unique artwork called "Knight Rise" by Arizona artist James Turrell is always on display.

History of SMoCA

The idea for SMoCA began in 1988. The museum officially opened its doors in February 1999. The building where SMoCA is located used to be a movie theater. A talented architect named Will Bruder completely changed it. He made it into the modern and simple building you see today.

A non-profit group called Scottsdale Arts helps run the museum. They manage it for the city of Scottsdale. SMoCA has shown amazing art from many artists. Some of these artists include Lydia Okumura, James Marshall, Paolo Soleri, Squidsoup, Mel Roman, and Olafur Eliasson.
