Scrattons Eco Park is a peaceful green space in Dagenham.

Scrattons Eco Park, sometimes called Scrattons Farm Eco Park, is a special nature area. You can find it in Dagenham, which is part of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The local council owns and manages this park.

What is Scrattons Eco Park?

This park is a small nature reserve. It helps protect local wildlife and plants. It's a great place to learn about nature right in the city.

From Old Gardens to a Green Space

A long time ago, this land was marshy. It also had small gardens called allotments. People used these allotments to grow their own food. By the late 1990s, these gardens became very wild. They were hard to get into and overgrown.

So, a decision was made. People decided to turn the area into an "ecological park." This means a park designed to help nature thrive.

Creating Homes for Wildlife

Today, Scrattons Eco Park has areas of bramble bushes. It also has grassy paths for walking. The park managers made sure to keep the old trees and shrubs. These plants were already growing there.

The main goal of the park is important. It aims to create many different homes, or "habitats," for living things. This includes various plants, birds, insects, and small mammals. It helps them all live and grow safely.

A Local Nature Reserve

In 2006, Scrattons Eco Park became even more special. It was officially named a local nature reserve. This means it is recognized for its importance to nature. The park, along with an extra area, covers about two hectares. A hectare is roughly the size of two football fields.

How to Visit Scrattons Eco Park

You can find the entrance to the park easily. It is through a footpath. This path is located at the very end of Morrison Road. There is also an "extension" area of the park. This part is off Levine Gardens. However, the extension is not open to the public.
