The Cannons

Seán Cannon, born on November 29, 1940, is a talented musician from Ireland. He is well-known for playing the guitar with the famous band The Dubliners. Later, he continued playing with their new group, The Dublin Legends.

Seán Cannon's Early Life

Seán Cannon was born in Galway, Ireland. When he was young, he traveled a lot around Europe. He visited countries like England, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain. These trips helped him learn to speak many different languages. Later, Seán moved to England. There, he became a popular solo artist, performing in many folk clubs across Britain.

Seán's Family Life

Seán Cannon is married to Pamela Blick. They have two sons named James and Robert Cannon. Seán Cannon lives in Coventry, United Kingdom.

Seán's Music Career

By 1969, Seán Cannon joined a folk group in England called "The Gaels." This group had three Irish members and one Scottish member. They even released an album together. Seán also released three of his own solo albums in the 1970s.

Seán Cannon had known the members of The Dubliners for many years. He often joined them on stage to perform. In 1980, when the lead singer Luke Kelly became unwell, Seán stepped in to help. By 1983, he officially became a full-time member of The Dubliners.

Seán is famous for singing songs in the Irish language, such as "Peggy Lettermore" and "Cill Chais." He also sings funny songs without instruments, known as a cappella songs. Some of these include "The Waterford Boys" and "The Sick Note."

In 2012, The Dubliners announced they would stop touring after their 50th Anniversary Tour. Seán Cannon decided to keep playing music with other former band members, Patsy Watchorn and Eamonn Campbell, and banjo player Gerry O'Connor. They formed a new band called "The Dublin Legends."

Even with all the touring, Seán still finds time for his own music projects. He has performed with Irish songwriter Pat Cooksey. More recently, he has been playing with his sons, James and Robert Cannon. Their group is called "The Cannons." They play traditional Irish folk music and songs by artists like Shane MacGowan, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams.
