About Seán Mac Mathúna
Seán Mac Mathúna was born in Tralee, a town in County Kerry, Ireland. He studied at University College Cork.
He started his writing journey by creating short stories. Many of these stories were published in Irish magazines like Comhar. His English stories appeared in newspapers such as the Irish Times and the Irish Press.
In 1983, his first collection of stories, called Ding (which means "Wedge"), was published. Later, in 1999, his second Irish-language collection, Banana, won a special award called Gradam Uí Shúilleabháin / Irish Book of the Year Award. In 2005, some of his best short stories were put together in a book called Úlla (meaning "Apples").

Besides stories and novels, Mac Mathúna writes plays for the theatre. In 1992, a famous theatre called the Abbey Theatre put on his play The Winter Thief. They performed it in both English and Irish. In 1999, the Taibhdhearc Theatre in Galway produced his play Hula Hul.
You can also hear some of his work on an audiobook. It is called Niall Tóibín ag léamh gearrscéalta le Seán Mac Mathúna. This means "Niall Tóibín reading short stories by Seán Mac Mathúna".
