Seán Ryan (born 1919, died 1985) was a very famous Irish musician. He was a master of the fiddle and the tin whistle.

Seán Ryan was born in a town called Nenagh in County Tipperary, Ireland. He became a champion musician early in his career. In 1954, he won the Oireachtas competition. Then, in 1955 and 1956, he won the top prize in the Senior All Ireland Fiddle Championship. He also won the All Ireland Duet Championship in 1956 with his music partner, P.J. Moloney.

Seán Ryan came from a large family with three sisters and six brothers. He lived with his grandmother in Garryhinch, Portarlington for a time. There, he met his first wife, Anna Dunne. They got married in November 1945 and made their home in Cloneyhurke. They had seven children together. Seán Ryan started writing his own music while living in Cloneyhurke. Their home became a popular spot for other famous musicians, like Barney McKenna and Joe Burke, to visit and play music with him. After Anna passed away in 1957, Seán married his second wife, Kathleen, in 1966. They settled in Rosenallis and had three children. He wrote many of his best tunes there.
