The building known as the Second Church of Christ, Scientist is a historic church in New York City. It is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, at Central Park West and West 68th Street. This area is part of the Central Park West Historic District.
The church building was designed by architect Frederick R. Comstock. It was built between 1899 and 1901. The style of the building is called Beaux-Arts. This is a grand and formal style of architecture.
Starting in 2005, the building went through a big restoration. Sydness Architects worked on cleaning the outside walls. They also made the beautiful stained-glass windows stronger. The copper dome on top was waterproofed, and the skylight was made to shine brightly.
In 2003, the Second Church of Christ, Scientist joined with another church. This was the First Church of Christ, Scientist. The First Church's building on 96th Street was later sold. The combined church now uses the name First Church of Christ, Scientist. They hold their services at the historic building on 68th Street.
