Sedat Simavi (1896 – 1953) was a famous Turkish journalist, writer, and film director. He was very creative and started many newspapers and magazines. He also helped create important organizations for journalists.

About Sedat Simavi
Sedat Simavi was born in 1896. His family had a history of working for the Ottoman Sultans. He went to Galatasaray High School and finished in 1912.
Starting Magazines and Newspapers
In 1916, Sedat Simavi started his first publication. It was a weekly magazine for women called Hande. He then launched a funny magazine called Diken. He also started another women's magazine, İnci.
His first daily newspaper was Dersaadet, which began in 1920. He also created other popular papers. These included Payihat, Güleryüz, Yedigün, and Resimli Gazete.
His Other Work
Sedat Simavi was not just a publisher. He also helped start the Turkish Journalists' Association in 1946. This group supports journalists in Turkey. In 1948, he co-founded the important Hürriyet newspaper.
He was also a talented political cartoonist. This means he drew cartoons about politics. Besides that, he wrote plays and movie scripts. He even wrote a novel called Fuji-Yama in 1944. In total, he published about 60 books!
Sedat Simavi passed away on December 11, 1953. He was buried in Kanlıca Cemetery in Istanbul.
His Lasting Impact
Sedat Simavi's work continues to be remembered. The Sedat Simavi Foundation gives out awards every year. These are called the Sedat Simavi Awards. They honor people in literature and other fields. The Turkish Journalists' Association also gives out the Sedat Simavi Journalism Award. This award celebrates great journalism.
