Seishiro Shimatani (嶋谷 征四郎, Shimatani Seishiro, November 6, 1938 – October 24, 2001) was a Japanese football player and manager. He was known for playing as a Midfielder. He also played for the Japan national team.

Playing Career

Seishiro Shimatani was born in Kyoto, Japan, on November 6, 1938. He loved football from a young age. After finishing his studies at Kansai University, he joined a football club called Furukawa Electric in 1961.

Club Football

Shimatani played for Furukawa Electric for several years. In 1965, his team joined a new league called the Japan Soccer League. He played one season in this league. After leaving Furukawa Electric, he went on to play for his local club, Kyoto Shiko.

National Team Debut

On January 11, 1959, while still a student at Kansai University, Shimatani got to play for the Japan national team. His first game was against the Singapore team. It was a big moment for him to represent his country.

Coaching Career

After his playing days, Shimatani became a football manager. He started managing his local club, Kyoto Shiko. This club later changed its name to Kyoto Purple Sanga.

Managing Kyoto Shiko

Shimatani first managed Kyoto Shiko from 1972 to 1974. In 1972, the club was promoted to a new division, the Japan Soccer League Division 2. He returned to manage the team again in 1977. However, in the 1978 season, the club moved down to the Japanese Regional Leagues. He stopped managing the team that year.

Later Coaching Role

In 1994, Shimatani took on another coaching role with Kyoto Purple Sanga. He managed the team for part of that year before leaving in September.

Later Life

Seishiro Shimatani passed away on October 24, 2001, in Kyoto. He was 62 years old.
