Selina's Early Life
Selina Bunbury was born in 1802 near Castlebellingham in County Louth, Ireland. She was one of fifteen children, and she had a twin! Her father, Rev. Henry Bunbury, was a Protestant minister.
Her family moved to Dublin, Ireland, in 1819. Around 1830, they moved again to Liverpool, England.
Her Career as a Writer
Selina Bunbury was a very busy writer. She wrote almost one hundred books! These included both fiction (made-up stories) and non-fiction (true stories and facts). She wrote for young people and for adults.
Her first book was Visit to my Birthplace, published in 1821. Her books often had strong messages about morals and beliefs. One reviewer in 1853 said she was a "discriminating traveller" who observed things well. They also noted her strong religious views, but said her books were still fun to read.
Traveling and Writing
Selina loved to travel and wrote many books about her journeys. In 1847 and 1848, she traveled from Stockholm, Sweden, all the way to Rome, Italy. During this trip, she saw many big changes and even revolutions happening in Europe.
