Selma Björnsdóttir, born on June 13, 1974, is a famous singer and actress from Iceland. People often call her Selma. She became well-known around the world for representing Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 1999 and 2005.

Early Acting and LazyTown
From Stage to Screen
In 1996, Selma played a character named Solla Stirða in a play called Áfram Latibær!. This play was the start of the popular children's TV show LazyTown. Her character later became Stephanie on the TV show. Selma also helped create the dances for some LazyTown episodes.
Eurovision Song Contest Appearances
Representing Iceland in 1999
Selma first took part in the Eurovision contest in 1999. It was held in Jerusalem. Her song was called "All Out of Luck". Many people thought she would win. During the voting, Selma started in the lead. However, Charlotte Nilsson from Sweden slowly caught up. Selma finished in second place. This was Iceland's best result in the contest at that time. Yohanna also placed second in 2009.
Second Chance in 2005
In 2005, Selma was chosen again to represent Iceland. This time, the contest was in Kyiv. Her song was "If I Had Your Love". Even though she was a favorite, her song did not make it to the final round. She finished 16th in the semi-final. This was Iceland's lowest score until 2018. For a while, Selma held both Iceland's best and worst results at Eurovision.
Eurovision Gala Performances
Selma was a main performer at the Eurovision Gala concert during Europride 2005. This event took place in Oslo. She sang both of her Eurovision songs. Other famous artists were also there. Later that night, she gave a small concert at a popular nightclub called Smuget.
Other Exciting Projects
Voice Acting and TV Judge
Selma has lent her voice to many Disney princesses. She has dubbed them into the Icelandic language. Some of these characters include Belle, Tiana, and Giselle. In 2009, Selma became a judge on Idol Stjörnuleit. This is the Icelandic version of the TV show Pop Idol. Selma was also the stage director for Iceland in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest.
