This fish lives in many parts of Florida. You can find it from the St. Johns and New rivers in the north. Its home stretches all the way south to the famous Everglades.
About the Seminole Killifish
Seminole killifish like to swim in open parts of lakes. They also enjoy calm, quiet spots in streams. Young killifish, called juveniles, often swim together. They usually stay near plants in the water.
How the Seminole Killifish Got Its Name
A scientist named Charles Frédéric Girard first described this fish. He did this in 1859. The first place it was found was Palatka in eastern Florida. The name seminolis likely comes from the Seminole people. They are a native group from southern Florida. This fish is special because it is found only in their homeland.
