Sepp Mayerl (born April 14, 1937, died July 28, 2012) was a famous Austrian mountain climber. People also knew him as Blasl-Sepp. He was known for climbing very high and difficult mountains.
Sepp was born in a small village called Göriach in Tyrol, Austria. He was the youngest of seven children in his family.

Amazing Mountain Climbs
Sepp Mayerl became famous for being the first person to climb two very difficult mountains.
First Climb of Lhotse Shar
In May 1970, Sepp Mayerl and his friend Rolf Walter were the first to climb a part of Lhotse mountain. This part is called Lhotse Shar. It is a very high peak in the Himalayas.
First Climb of Mount Jitchu Drake
Later, in May 1983, Sepp Mayerl made another important first climb. He and his team were the first to reach the top of Mount Jitchu Drake. His team included Werner Sucher, Albert Egger, Alois Stuckler, and Toni Ponholzer.
Later Life and Legacy
Sepp Mayerl continued to climb mountains throughout his life. He was 75 years old when he passed away.
Final Climb
On July 28, 2012, Sepp Mayerl was climbing in the Lienzer Dolomites. He was on the north ridge of a rock face called the Adlerwand. Sadly, he fell and died during this climb.
