Serafina and the Black Cloak is an American historical fiction and fantasy novel. It was written by Robert Beatty and first published in 2015. This book is the first in the Serafina Series. It tells the story before Serafina and the Twisted Staff.
The book follows the exciting and sometimes spooky adventures of Serafina. She is a twelve-year-old girl who works as the Chief Rat Catcher at the huge Biltmore Estate. Serafina teams up with her friend Braeden Vanderbilt. Together, they try to find out who the mysterious Man in the Black Cloak is. This person is responsible for several young guests disappearing from the estate.
Serafina and the Black Cloak was released on July 14, 2015. It was published by Disney Hyperion. The book has won many awards and nominations. These include the 2016 Pat Conroy Southern Book Prize. It was also named the Goodreads #1 Middle Grade Novel of 2015.
