Sergio Wolmar Zavoli (born September 21, 1923 – died August 4, 2020) was a famous Italian journalist and politician. He was known for his important work on radio and television. Later in his life, he became a member of the Italian Senate.

Early Career in Media
Sergio Zavoli started his career as a journalist in 1947. He worked for RAI, which is Italy's national public broadcasting company. For many years, he was a radio journalist. Later, he also began to host television programs.
Leading RAI
From 1980 to 1986, Zavoli held a very important position. He was the president of RAI. During this time, he also started writing books. In 1981, he published his first book, called Socialista di Dio. This book was very successful and won the Bancarella Award. This award is one of the most important literary prizes in Italy.
After he finished his time as president of RAI, he continued to work in television. He also kept writing more books.
Political Life
In 2001, Sergio Zavoli decided to enter politics. He was elected as a Senator for the Democrats of the Left party. A Senator is a member of the Italian Parliament. He served in this role for many years, until 2018.
His work in journalism was highly respected. On March 26, 2007, the University of Rome Tor Vergata gave him a special award. He received an honorary degree for his "extraordinary contribution" to Italian journalism. This degree recognized his great impact on news and communication.
From 2009 to 2013, he also led the RAI Supervision Commission. This group helps to oversee how RAI operates. Roberto Fico took over this role after him.
Later Years
Sergio Zavoli passed away in Rome on August 4, 2020. He was 96 years old. He is remembered for his long and successful career in both journalism and politics.
