Where is Emilia-Romagna Located?
To the north, Emilia-Romagna borders the Veneto and Lombardy regions. To the northwest, you'll find Piedmont and Liguria. The region is bordered by Tuscany to the west and southwest. To the south, it meets the Marche region and the small country of San Marino. Finally, the Adriatic Sea is to its east.

Rivers and Mountains in Emilia-Romagna
The most important river in Emilia-Romagna is the Po River. It's one of Italy's longest rivers. The highest point in the region is Monte Cimone. This mountain is part of the northern Apennines and stands at 2,165 m (7,103 ft) tall.
Understanding Emilia-Romagna's Provinces
Emilia-Romagna is divided into nine smaller areas called provinces. These provinces are grouped into two older, historical areas: Emilia and Romagna.
- Emilia includes the provinces of Ferrara, Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, and part of Bologna.
- Romagna includes the provinces of Forlì-Cesena, Ravenna, Rimini, and the other part of Bologna.
