Exploring Modena's Location and Landscape
The Province of Modena is a landlocked area, which means it doesn't touch the ocean. It's right in the middle of the Emilia-Romagna region. The province covers about 2,688 square kilometers (1,038 square miles).
The capital city, Modena, is special because it's surrounded by two important rivers: the Secchia and the Panaro. These rivers flow into the bigger Po River. Modena city is about 38 kilometers (24 miles) away from Bologna, which is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region.
Borders of the Province
The Province of Modena shares its borders with several other areas:
- To the north, it borders the Lombardy region, specifically the Mantua province.
- To the east, it borders the Ferrara province and the big Metropolitan City of Bologna.
- To the west, it borders the Reggio Emilia province.
- To the south, it borders the Tuscany region, including the Lucca and Pistoia provinces.
