The Province of Reggio Emilia (in Italian: Provincia di Reggio nell'Emilia) is one of the nine provinces in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. A province is like a large area that includes many towns and cities. The main city, and also the biggest one, is Reggio Emilia.

This province covers about 2,292 square kilometers (885 square miles). In 2017, around 531,942 people lived here. The province has 42 comuni. A comune is like a local town or district.

Rolo is the smallest comune in the east of the province. Ventasso is the comune farthest to the west. The towns on the edge of the province are Ventasso in the south and Luzzara in the north. Luzzara is the second largest comune in Emilia-Romagna. It also has the most foreign residents in the region.

The province is famous for the historic Canossa Castle. This castle belonged to Countess Matilde. It was here that Emperor Henry IV made a famous journey called the Walk to Canossa.

In 1797, important people from the free cities of Reggio, Modena, Bologna, and Ferrara met in Reggio Emilia. They met in a special room called the Sala del Tricolore. There, they declared the Repubblica Cispadana (Cispadane Republic). They chose a green, white, and red flag for their new republic. This flag was later adopted in 1848 as the national flag of Italy.

It is one of the most advanced systems for preschool education today. The ideas for this approach come from thinkers like Malaguzzi, Bruner, Vygotsky, Dewey, Piaget, and Gardner.
