Sérgio Ricardo de Jesus Vertello, known simply as Sérgio or Serjão (which means big Sérgio), is a former professional Brazilian soccer player. He was born on September 19, 1975, in São Paulo, Brazil. Sérgio played as a defender during his career.

Sérgio's Soccer Journey
Sérgio started his soccer career in Brazil. He played for Juventus from 1990 to 1998. This was where he spent his youth and early professional years.
Playing in Japan
After his time at Juventus, Sérgio moved to Japan. He joined the club Albirex Niigata in 1999 and played there until 2002. He then moved to another Japanese team, Avispa Fukuoka, for the 2003 season.
Back to Brazil and Europe
In 2004, Sérgio returned to Brazil to play for Ituano. During that same year, he was loaned to Vasco da Gama, another well-known Brazilian club.
From 2004 to 2005, Sérgio also had a chance to play in Europe. He was loaned to Duisburg, a team in Germany. This gave him experience playing in a different league.
Final Club
Sérgio signed a six-month contract with Vila Nova in January 2006. This was one of his last professional clubs before he finished his playing career.
