The Serranía de la Neblina National Park is a huge national park in Venezuela. It's a very special place with amazing mountains, thick clouds, and unique plants and animals. This park was created in 1978 to protect its incredible nature.

Where is the Park?

This park is found in the Amazonas State of Venezuela. It's in the southwest part of the state. The park is located next to another big park called Parima Tapirapecó National Park.

The park is named after the Cerro de la Neblina mountain. The highest point on the Venezuelan side of this mountain is Phelps Peak, which is 2,992 meters (about 9,816 feet) tall. The mountain range also goes into Brazil. There, the highest point is Pico da Neblina, at 3,014 meters (about 9,888 feet). Brazil also has a national park next to it to protect this special area.

A Land of Clouds and Canyons

The mountains in this park are almost always covered in clouds. That's why it's called "La Neblina," which means "the mist" or "the fog" in Spanish. Even though it's in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, it has some of the highest mountains in the region.

The Serranía La Neblina is the highest type of flat-topped mountain called a tepuy. A huge canyon, the Baría Grande Canyon, cuts through it. This canyon is one of the deepest in the world! The park is also part of a larger protected area called the Orinoco-Casiquiare biosphere reserve.

Amazing Plants and Animals

The park is part of a special natural area called the Guayanan Highlands moist forests. This means it has a lot of rainforests and unique plants.

Unique Plants

The park has many plants that can only be found there. One example is a shrub called Neblinaria celiae. You won't find it anywhere else in the world! There are also many different kinds of carnivorous plants here. These plants "eat" insects to get their nutrients.

Wild Animals

The park is home to many exciting animals. You might find jaguars, which are large wild cats, and tapirs, which look a bit like pigs with short trunks. There are also smaller wild cats called cunaguaros (also known as ocelots) and many different types of monkeys swinging through the trees.

Snakes are also common in the park. Some of them are very large, like anacondas. Other snakes, like bothrops and green mapanares, are very poisonous, so it's important to be careful.
