A Look Back in Time
Seth Ward gets its name from Seth Ward College. This college was started in 1910 by a Methodist bishop named Seth Ward. He took over an older school, Central Plains College, which began in 1907.
Sadly, the college building burned down in 1916. It was never rebuilt after the fire.
A famous country singer, Jimmy Dean, was born in Seth Ward. He was known for his music and also for his sausage brand.
Where is Seth Ward?
Seth Ward is located in the northeastern part of Hale County. It's very close to the city of Plainview, which is the main town in the county.
If you travel by car, Interstate 27 passes just north of Seth Ward. You can get to Seth Ward from Exit 53 on I-27. This highway can take you north about 74 miles (119 km) to Amarillo. If you go south, it's about 50 miles (80 km) to Lubbock.
