Seven Oaks is a historic house located in Bluffton, South Carolina. It was built way back in 1850. This special house has two floors and large porches on its south and east sides. It also has two chimneys on the outside.
The house got its name, Seven Oaks, because it sits on seven very big stumps from live oak trees. These stumps help support the whole house! Inside, you can still see some of the original parts. There's even a line on the floor in one room that shows where a new part was added to the house a long time ago.

The History of Seven Oaks
Who Lived at Seven Oaks?
The very first person to own Seven Oaks was Colonel Middleton Stuart. He lived there with his wife, Emma Barnwell Stoney. After them, the house was sold a few times. In 1866, Frances Marion Edward bought it. Later, it was owned by Ephraim Mikell Baynard. Then, E. L. Harrison owned it, and after that, the Baynard family from Hilton Head Island became the owners.
A Popular Place to Stay
In the 1920s, Seven Oaks became a very busy place! A woman named Mrs. Elizabeth Sanders ran it as a popular boarding house. A boarding house is like a small hotel where people can rent a room to stay. Salesmen traveling for work and visitors enjoying their summer vacations loved to stay at Seven Oaks.
From Museum to Home
Seven Oaks got a big makeover starting in 2007. After all the repairs and updates, the house became a museum! It was a Civil War museum, where people could learn about that important time in history. But in 2012, the house was sold again. Now, Seven Oaks is a private home where a family lives.
