After performing in Singapore's National Day Parade in 2007, Shabir noticed there weren't many Tamil songs. So, he wrote "Singai Naadu," a Tamil song for the 2012 National Day Parade. Shabir has also acted in several TV shows. He played the main character, Nantha, in the TV series Vettai (which means "The Hunt"). This show started in 2010 and was very popular in Singapore and Malaysia. In 2011, Shabir won the Best Actor award at the Pradhana Vizha Awards for his role.
He also played Vettaiyan in Naam 2, a follow-up to the popular series Naam. Shabir also acted as Major Habibullah Khan, a former war hero, in the show This Land Is Mine. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Asian Television Awards for this role.
