Shady Grove's Past
The area where Shady Grove is located today might have been settled after the American Civil War. This war ended in 1865.
By the 1930s, Shady Grove had a small store and a few homes. In 1936, only 20 people lived there. The store closed down after World War II ended in 1945.
Even in 1990, the population stayed at 20 people. There was a church and some scattered houses. By 2000, the community grew a little, reaching 30 residents.
Where is Shady Grove Located?
Shady Grove can be found in eastern Cherokee County, Texas. It is about 8 miles (13 kilometers) northeast of a town called Rusk.
The community is located where two roads meet: Farm to Market Road 2962 and U.S. Route 84.

Long ago, Shady Grove had its own school. In 1896, 26 students were enrolled there.
Today, children living in Shady Grove attend schools in the Rusk Independent School District. This district serves students from several communities in the area.
