Shahram Rostami is a brave former Iranian fighter pilot. He was an important pilot during the Iran–Iraq War. He is known as a "flying ace" because he won six air battles. He shot down three MiG planes and three Mirage F.1 planes. He was one of the best pilots flying the F-14 Tomcat jet.
Shahram Rostami also held important leadership roles. He was a deputy commander for the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force. He also led the Joint Staff of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army.
A Flying Ace's Victories
A "flying ace" is a military pilot who has shot down five or more enemy aircraft in air combat. Shahram Rostami achieved this impressive title. He used powerful missiles like the AIM-54 Phoenix and the AIM-7 Sparrow to defeat enemy planes.
Here are some of his confirmed victories:
- On October 22, 1981, he shot down three Mirage F1EQ planes using AIM-54A missiles. On the same day, he also shot down a MiG-21MF using an AIM-7E missile.
- On September 16, 1982, he shot down a MiG-25RB using an AIM-54A missile.
- On December 1, 1982, he shot down another MiG-25RB, again with an AIM-54A missile.
These victories show his skill and bravery as a pilot during the war.
