Shamari DeVoe (born Shamari Fears on February 22, 1980) is an American singer. She became well-known in the late 1990s as the lead singer of the girl group Blaque. DeVoe also acted in the comedy movie Bring It On in 2000. She has appeared on TV shows like The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Couples Retreat with her husband, R&B singer Ronnie DeVoe.

Early Life and Education

Shamari DeVoe was born in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Her love for music and performing started early. When she was 13, she took part in a talent show. The next year, she started her first girl group. Her classmate Natina Reed was also in the group. In 2013, DeVoe earned a degree in Sociology from Georgia State University.

Music Career

Shamari DeVoe and her group Blaque were discovered by the famous American rapper Lisa Lopes. Lisa Lopes helped guide the group. Shamari formed Blaque with Brandi Williams and Natina Reed.

The group first appeared in 1997. They were in the music video for Lil' Kim's song "Not Tonight". Blaque's first album, called Blaque, came out in 1999. It was very popular, selling over 1.5 million copies. This earned it a Platinum award. Billboard magazine even named Blaque one of the best new artists in 1999.

Blaque took a break for a few years. The group eventually split up in 2008. Sadly, Natina Reed passed away in 2012. Shamari DeVoe still performs with Brandi Williams, another member of Blaque.

Acting and Television

In 2000, Shamari DeVoe played a cheerleader named Lava in the comedy movie Bring It On.

In November 2018, DeVoe joined the TV show The Real Housewives of Atlanta. This is a reality television series on the Bravo channel. She was a main cast member for the show's eleventh season. She later appeared as a guest in Season 16.

Shamari is also working on music with her husband, Ronnie DeVoe. Their music project is called Me & Mari. They released a song together called "Love Comes Through" in December 2018.

Personal Life

On March 10, 2006, Shamari married Ronnie DeVoe. Ronnie is a member of the famous music groups New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe. Shamari and Ronnie have twin boys named Ronald and Roman. Their sons were born in 2017. In December 2014, Shamari DeVoe became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
