Shamari DeVoe (born Shamari Fears on February 22, 1980) is an American singer. She became well-known in the late 1990s. This was when she was the lead singer of the girl group Blaque.

Shamari also acted in the comedy movie Bring It On in 2000. She played a character named Lava. Later, she appeared on the TV show The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She was part of its eleventh season. She also appeared on the VH1 show Couples Retreat with her husband, R&B singer Ronnie DeVoe.

Early Life and Education

Shamari DeVoe was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 22, 1980. Her parents are Dawn Anderson and Raymond Fears. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia.

Shamari loved music and performing from a young age. When she was 13, she took part in a talent show. This made her even more interested in music. The next year, she started her first girl group. Her classmate Natina Reed was one of the members. In 2013, Shamari graduated from Georgia State University. She earned a degree in Sociology.

Music and Acting Career

Shamari DeVoe and her group Blaque were discovered by the American rapper Lisa Lopes. Lisa helped guide the group. Shamari formed Blaque with Brandi Williams and Natina Reed.

The group first appeared in 1997. This was in the music video for Lil' Kim's song "Not Tonight". Their first album, Blaque, came out in 1999. It was very popular and sold over 1.5 million copies. This earned it a Platinum award. Billboard magazine even called Blaque the fourth "Best New Artist" in 1999.

In 2000, Shamari acted in the comedy movie Bring It On. She played a cheerleader named Lava.

Blaque took a break for a few years. The group eventually split up in 2008. Sadly, Natina Reed passed away in 2012. Shamari still performs with her fellow group member Brandi Williams.

In November 2018, Shamari joined the TV show The Real Housewives of Atlanta. This was for the show's eleventh season. She announced in September 2019 that she would not return for the next season. Shamari is now working on a music project with her husband, Ronnie DeVoe. Their duo is called Me & Mari. They released a song called "Love Comes Through" in December 2018.
