Shang Chunsong (Chinese: 商春松; pinyin: Shāng Chūnsōng) is a talented athlete from China. She was born on March 18, 1996. Shang is famous for her skills in two sports: artistic gymnastics and Parkour.

In gymnastics, Shang was the captain of the Chinese team that won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She also helped her team win silver medals at the 2014 and 2015 World Championships. At home in China, she was the national all-around champion in 2015 and 2016.

More recently, Shang has also become a world champion in Parkour. She won the freestyle event at the 2024 World Championships.

About Shang Chunsong's Life

Shang Chunsong grew up in a family that faced many challenges. Her parents worked hard in construction. She has a brother who has a visual impairment. Shang's biggest dream was to earn enough money to help her brother.

After winning money from the 2013 Chinese National Games, she bought a house for her brother. Her brother, Shang Lei, shared that she bought it for him for when he gets married. He said, "It doesn't matter how much the prize money is, I just want my sister to smile more." This shows how much they care for each other.

Starting Senior Competitions in 2012

Shang began competing at the senior level in 2012. She joined the Chinese team at the Pacific Rim Championships and helped them win a silver medal. She also placed fourth on the uneven bars and balance beam, and fifth in the all-around competition.

Later that year, she competed at the Asian Championships. There, she won three gold medals: one with her team, one on the balance beam, and one on the floor exercise. She also earned a bronze medal in the all-around.

Key Moments in 2013

In 2013, Shang competed at the Tokyo World Cup. She finished first on the balance beam and second on the floor exercise. At the Anadia World Cup, she won a silver medal on balance beam and bronze medals on floor exercise and uneven bars.

At the Chinese National Games, Shang tied for first place in the all-around. She also won gold medals on uneven bars and floor exercise, and a bronze on the balance beam. Her team from Hunan also won a bronze medal.

Shang was chosen to compete at the World Championships. She made it to the all-around final, finishing eighth. She also reached the balance beam final, where she placed sixth.

Success in 2014

The year 2014 was very successful for Shang. At the Chinese National Championships, she won gold medals on the balance beam and floor exercise. She also earned silver medals in the all-around and uneven bars, and a team bronze.

She then competed at the Asian Games in Incheon. Her team won the gold medal by a large margin. Shang also won individual silver medals in the all-around and floor exercise, and a bronze on the balance beam.

Shang was part of the Chinese team at the World Championships. Her team won the silver medal, coming in second to the United States.

Shang started 2015 strong at the São Paulo World Cup, winning gold on both the uneven bars and balance beam. At the Chinese National Championships, she won gold with her team. She also won gold in the all-around and on the balance beam, plus a silver on the floor exercise.

She was selected for the 2015 World Championships team. The team won a silver medal. Shang finished fourth in the individual all-around, showing her consistent performance. She also placed sixth in the uneven bars final and fourth in the floor exercise final.

The 2016 Olympic Year

In 2016, at the Chinese National Championships, Shang continued her winning streak. She won gold with her team, in the all-around, on the balance beam, and on the floor exercise.

Shang was chosen to be on the Olympic team for China and was named team captain. At the Summer Olympics in Rio, she helped China win a bronze medal in the team competition. She also placed fourth in the individual all-around competition, very close to a bronze medal. She finished fifth in the uneven bars final. Shang faced a challenge during the Olympics when she had a fever, which affected her performance in the early days of the competition.

Retirement and Return

Shang Chunsong competed in 2017, winning gold on floor at the national championships. After not making the national team for the World Championships, she announced her retirement from gymnastics in September 2017.

However, in 2019, it was announced that she had returned to the sport! She competed at the Chinese National Championships, where she once again won the national title on the floor exercise.
