Shāng Chūnsōng (商春松) is a talented Chinese artistic gymnast and traceur. She was the captain of the Chinese gymnastics team that won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Shang also earned silver medals with her team at the World Championships in 2014 and 2015. In China, she was the national all-around champion in 2015 and 2016. More recently, in 2024, she became the World freestyle champion in Parkour.

About Shang Chunsong

Shang Chunsong was born on March 18, 1996. She grew up in a family where her parents worked hard in construction. Shang has a brother who has a visual impairment. A big dream for Shang was to earn enough money to help her brother with his eyesight. She even bought a house for him in Changsha after winning money from the 2013 Chinese National Games. Her brother, Shang Lei, shared that she wanted the house for him when he got married. He also said, "It doesn't matter how much the prize money is, I just want my sister to smile more."

Artistic Gymnastics Journey

Starting Her Senior Career: 2012

Shang began competing as a senior gymnast in 2012. She helped the Chinese team win a silver medal at the Pacific Rim Championships. Later that year, at the Asian Championships, she won three gold medals: one with the Chinese team, one on the balance beam, and another on the floor exercise. She also earned a bronze medal in the all-around competition.

Big Competitions and Medals: 2013

In 2013, Shang competed at the Tokyo World Cup, where she won gold on the balance beam and silver on the floor exercise. At the Chinese National Games, she tied for first place in the all-around. She also won gold medals on the uneven bars and floor exercise, and bronze on the balance beam.

Shang was chosen to compete at the World Championships in Antwerp. She made it to the all-around final and the balance beam final, showing her skill on the world stage.

Team Success and Individual Medals: 2014

The year 2014 was very successful for Shang. At the Chinese Nationals, she won gold medals on the balance beam and floor exercise. She also took home silver medals in the all-around and on the uneven bars.

Shang was chosen to be part of the Chinese Olympic team and was named team captain. At the Summer Olympics in Rio, she helped China win a bronze medal in the team competition. She also placed fourth in the individual all-around competition, just missing a medal.

Retirement and Return: 2017-2019

After the 2017 season, Shang announced her retirement from artistic gymnastics. However, in 2019, she made a comeback! She competed at the Chinese National Championships again and won the national title on the floor exercise.

Continuing Her Journey: 2020-2023

Shang continued to compete in artistic gymnastics in the following years. She participated in the Chinese National Championships and other events, showing her dedication to the sport. In 2021 and 2023, she earned bronze medals on the floor exercise at the National Championships.

Shang's Special Skill

Shang has a gymnastics skill named after her in the official Code of Points. This means she was the first to perform this move successfully in a major competition.
